The Green Building Guidelines is an easy-to read, builder-friendly primer for homebuilders across the nation. The Guidelines book was originally developed by a committee of builders, architects, building scientists, product manufacturers. SBIC's primer was the first national green home building resource. Their work was supported by the Department of Energy's Building America Program through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Consortium for Advanced Residential Buildings.
The Fifth Edition of the Guidelines acquaints the reader with basic concepts about sustainable home design and provides resources where more detailed information can be located. At the end of each section, readers find "Interactions," references to other sections of the book that describe design strategies, systems, components, or materials that interact in important ways with the topic of the chapter.
For the first time the primer covers the Council's overarching philosophy of going Beyond GreenTM to examine issues related to cost, safety, security, and health. The Fifth Edition also features NAHB's Model Green Home Building Guidelines on a CD-ROM (a great resource for local home building associations looking to start a green building program in their area), the Built Green™ Checklist, and the USGBC LEED for Homes Project Checklist.
