Don't Get Left Out!
Green residential building is the fastest growing sector of the building industry. Homeowners are asking for sustainable homes and the homebuilders who can construct them. Are you one of them?
|
Green home building has rocketed from a niche market to center stage in just a few years. Fueled by climate change, energy costs, government regulations and rapidly expanding consumer demand for green homes, two-thirds of home builders will participate in some form of green building this year!
Green Building Guidelines: Meeting the Demand for Low-Energy, Resource-Efficient Homes© is an easy-to read, builder-friendly text that is applicable to homebuilders across the nation. Released in early 2007, the Fifth Edition of the Guidelines© acquaints the reader with basic concepts and provides resources where more detailed information can be located. At the end of each section, readers find "Interactions," references to other sections of the book that describe design strategies, systems, components, or materials that interact in important ways with the topic of the chapter.
For the first time, the book includes NAHB's Model Green Home Building Guidelines on a CD-ROM as a resource for local home building associations looking to start a green building program in their area. The new Fifth Edition also features a USGBC LEED for Homes rating system checklist, a discussion of the Whole Building Approach, and expanded acoustics coverage.
The Green Building Guidelines© was originally developed by a committee of builders (both members and non-members of NAHB), architects, building scientists, product manufacturers and others over a 21/2 year period (1998 - 2001). Their work was supported by DOE's Building America Program through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The manual is published by the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council.
The Guidelines© can be used in a workshop or seminar setting or as a stand-alone document.
