For the first time, the book includes NAHB's Model Green Home Building Guidelines on a CD-ROM as a resource for local home building associations looking to start a green building program in their area. The new Fifth Edition also features a USGBC LEED for Homes rating system checklist, a discussion of the Whole Building Approach, and expanded acoustics coverage.

The Green Building Guidelines^© was originally developed by a committee of builders (both members and non-members of NAHB), architects, building scientists, product manufacturers and others over a 2^1/2 year period (1998 - 2001). Their work was supported by DOE's Building America Program through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The manual is published by the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council.

The Guidelines^© can be used in a workshop or seminar setting or as a stand-alone document.
