New
Energy-10 Exercises for Version 1.8 have recently been revised by
SBIC member and Energy-10 Instructor Alicia Ravetto (visit
www.aliciaravettoarchitect.com).
The exercises serve as an excellent tutorial for new users. The ZIP
file "Version 1.8 exercises.zip" contains all fourteen exercises.

Downloadable files useful for some ENERGY-10™ users are
available. To see if you need them, check the "About" screen on
your version (the image screen you see each time you open the
software). At the bottom left hand corner, if it shows you are
using Version 1.8 1080, or Version 1.8 1081, you
may wish to download the available updates. If you are using
Version 1.8 1082, there is no need to download these updates
(no harm will occur if Version 1.8 1082 users download
these files).

Energy-10
™ Version 1.8 Help File is available for free download!
If you are a registered user, or considering the purchase of
Energy-10™, you will
find this file useful in order to research current capabilities
- without running the software. When you test drive the help
file, the two files in the zipped archive must be extracted and
placed together in a dedicated sub directory, so that the Help
file opens to the introductory topic and displays a meaningful
TOC.

and clearly depict the benefits of:
-
Daylighting
-
Passive solar heating and cooling
-
Natural ventilation
-
Well-insulated building envelopes
-
High-performance windows
-
High-performance lighting systems
-
High-performance mechanical equipment
-
And more
|

New Features in Version 1.8:
|
|
-
Photovoltaic module that provides the ability to
model and simulate the performance of a PV system
that is either stand-alone or integrated with the
building.
-
Solar Domestic Hot Water module provides a new
solar domestic/service hot water modeling
capability.
-
A
new library ("ASHRAELIB") is included with Version
1.8 defining constructions (wall, roof, window,

A Special Message from
SBIC Chair Greg Franta
|
| ENERGY-10™
helps professionals routinely deliver high-performance buildings that
will operate with, on average, 20-30% lower energy costs. Using climate
data that is site-specific, see how different combinations
of materials, systems, and orientation yield lesser or
greater results, based on energy use, comparative costs, and
reduced emissions. |

Advantages of the
ENERGY-10™
software:
-
Allows you to integrate and assess dozens of
energy-efficient design decisions quickly and accurately.
-
Helps you and your clients understand "and see" the actual
dollar savings that can be achieved through informed siting,
materials selection, and integrated, energy-efficient
design.
-
Quantifies and clearly illustrates the impact of design
decisions on first cost, operating costs, and pollution
prevention
-
Helps you obtain energy credits under the U.S. Green Building Council™ LEED™
program. Output reports for "daylighting" and "total
building energy use" facilitate the LEED™
submission process.

This powerful tool also helps make informed decisions about energy performance during the
crucial early phases of design, when sustainable building
strategies and materials can be integrated at lowest cost.
ENERGY-10™
takes the
guesswork out of integrated energy design. |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
ENERGY-10™
calculates integrated energy performance and is
best suited to buildings with one or two thermal zones. The
interface is simple, the analysis thorough, and the results
accurate and quick. Building types that are most frequently
simulated using this software include retail and office
buildings, warehouses, schools, restaurants, residences,
lodging facilities, and more.
Launch
ENERGY-10™
and within minutes, a detailed project simulation
unfolds. The software performs hour-by-hour calculations and
produces graphic reports depicting your building's thermal,
HVAC, and daylighting performance over a full year of
operation. Use actual energy and demand charges to track
operating costs; evaluate hourly, monthly, or annual energy
use; and track peak loads for your clients' projects.
ENERGY-10™'s
accuracy has been demonstrated using the BESTEST procedure
developed by NREL's Center for Buildings and Thermal Systems
within the International Energy Agency Solar Heating and
Cooling Program Task 12. BESTEST has been adopted by the
U.S. Department of Energy and the international community as
the accepted basis for verifying the credibility of computer
simulation programs. |

What Users
Are Saying
|
 |
Alicia
Ravetto is an architect who has used ENERGY-10™
to analyze dozens of buildings, including her
award-winning design for the Rural Advancement
Foundation International-USA office building in North Carolina.
"I use it because it is easy to use and helps in the
beginning stages of the project to provide meaningful
information about the energy use of a building," says Ravetto. |
|
"It's been my contention that as resources like
ENERGY-10™
become available, our professionals will
finally embrace energy efficiency as a design principle.
It will become the norm for buildings to far surpass
local energy codes."
Susan Maxman, FAIA
Susan Maxman Architects
"This is the best-conceived energy
analysis software I have seen...
ENERGY-10™
will help
both of my businesses and thousands like mine deliver
higher grade consulting services to clients."
Marc Rosenbaum, PE
Energysmiths & ARC Design Group
"Normally, I don't get excited about energy simulation
models, but we at RMI are excited about this one,
because we think it can fundamentally change general
design practice. [ENERGY-10™
] has a really intuitive
interface that's extremely easy and fast to use."
Amory Lovins
Rocky Mountain Institute
"I can't imagine doing another project without using
ENERGY-10™
. It's so user friendly that one can get useful
information right away. It also has great depth,
enabling those with technical prowess to reach new
heights in energy efficient design."
A. George Beeler
