SBIC'S 2006 AWARD WINNERS

Best Sustainable Practices/ Exemplary Sustainable Building

SBIC 2006 Award Winners

On December 7, the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) presented its annual awards during the SUPER THURSDAY events at Ecobuild Federal. SBIC's awards recognize the exceptional contributions that SBIC members and partners make to sustainability across the United States. The first place winner in the Exemplary Sustainable Building category was Consigli Construction for the Cambridge City Hall Annex, the building which the jury believed best incorporated the "whole building design" process. By awarding first prize to Consigli Construction, the jury recognizes Consigli's effort to ensure a sustainable, historically preserved project, while maintaining an integrated team approach. This year's Best Sustainable Practice Award category had three winners and one honorable mention. (See full list of winners below).

The presentation of awards, hosted by Jack Armstrong of BASF and Deane Evans, FAIA, was the culmination of a full day of stimulating events including a keynote address by Ed Mazria, AIA and SBIC's FORUM 2006.

"Green Building Pages is honored to be included in this year's 2006 SBIC Awards and to be in such great company. The award provides more visibility to the industry, but even more valuable has been and will continue to be, the feedback and multiple networking opportunities SBIC brings together with its diverse membership and organizational focus. As the building industry seriously grapples with the issues of climate change, SBIC will play an ever-increasing and essential role in facilitating the dialog and in providing positive solutions."
--Marilyn Miller Farmer, AIA, LEED AP, Director of Green Building Pages

"[Kalwall's] Nanogel is a very light, highly porous form of silica aerogel that is 97% air. Cabot makes it by producing a hydrogel that is treated to make it hydrophobic . . . The amazing thing about silica aerogel is how well it insulates—even while transmitting (diffused) light."
