2010 PROGRAM
Since its inception in 1980, SBIC has been a national leader in defining the whole building approach to design. This approach, which results in high-performance buildings, favors sustainability as a prominent design objective.
At the same time, we recognize that if buildings are to be enduring assets to our communities they must also be cost-effective, safe and secure, accessible, functional, productive, aesthetically pleasing, and sensitive to historic contexts. The Awards program is a key part of SBIC's commitment to the design, construction, and maintenance of high-performance buildings through education, outreach, and advocacy.
SBIC will recognize award winners in the following categories:
Category A: High-Performance Buildings
- Commercial buildings, government buildings, residences, schools, and institutional buildings.
- Project must have been completed within the last three years.
- Renovation, retrofit, and historic reuse and preservation projects.
Category B: High-Performance Initiatives
- Policy Programs
- Reseach and Construction Process
- Educational Initiatives
- Consumer Awareness Efforts
Greg Franta Memorial Award
SBIC will present the first annual Greg Franta Memorial Award with the generous support of BASF Corporation. Greg was a dynamic leader in the sustainable building field and a tireless supporter of SBIC. As a long-time member, Director, instructor and as Chairman, he generously contributed his time and creativity to increase SBIC’s visibility, promote its mission, and ensure technical accuracy. His untimely death left a substantial void in the sustainable building community, but his legacy endures as the work he pioneered continues.
Award Criteria
The Greg Franta Memorial Award will recognize a person or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to high-performance sustainable building design and construction.
Complete Program Criteria can be found in the Call for Entries.
